Not all funding is created equal. Here's how to know what you're really offering (and what sponsors expect in return):
| Type | What It Means | Example (Nonprofit) | Example (For‑Profit) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sponsorship | A business pays for exposure and engagement with your audience | Bank gets logo on event materials & stage | Coffee brand sponsors your trade show and hosts a tasting lounge |
| Philanthropy | A gift or donation, with little or no expectations of return | Foundation grant for art therapy program | Charitable donation to employee wellness charity |
| Corporate Partnership | Two organizations team up for mutual benefit, not always for money | Museum and TV station co-host public series | Fitness company and co‑working space create "work while standing" challenge |
When pitching, use the correct term for what you're offering. If you're promising sponsor benefits, avoid calling it a donation.
